Game Of Thrones krijgt meest Emmy-nominaties

Donderdag werden de nominaties bekend gemaakt voor de 70ste Emmy Awards. Game Of Thrones voert de lijst aan met 22 nominaties, gevolgd oor Saturday Night Live en Westworld met elk 21 stuks. The Handmaid’s Tale en The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story vervolledigen de top-5 met respectievelijk 20 en 18 nominaties.
Netflix is met 112 nominaties het meest genomineerde platform, gevolgd door HBO (108) en NBC (78). Voor Netflix betekent dit een stijging met 21 stuks in vergelijking met vorig jaar.

Opvallend was dat er vooral teruggegrepen werd naar de vaste waarden, ook al waren bepaalde vervolgseizoenen lang niet zo goed als de vorige seizoenen. M.a.w. er was weinig plaats voor nieuwkomers, vooral dan in de belangrijkste categorieën. Namen en series die dit jaar over het hoofd werden gezien waren o.a. Jane Fonda (haar collega Lily Tomlin is wél genomineerd voor haar rol in Grace & Frankie), The Looming Tower (Jeff Daniels is wél genomineerd, maar de serie is het niet), Mindhunter dat compleet vergeten werd, Kit Harrington en Emilia Clarke (terwijl drie collega's wél een nominatie kregen), The Deuce (zowel in de categorie 'beste miniserie' als 'beste actrice' met Maggie Gyllenhaal), Jodie Comer (Sandra Oh kreeg voor Killing Eve wél een nominatie), Counterpart (vooral dan J.K. Simmons) en Twin Peaks dat ondanks 9 nominaties, niet genomineerd werd voor ‘beste miniserie’. Pijnlijk ook om te zein dat de tijd van Modern Family en The Big Bang Theory duidelijk voorbij is. De standaard voor comedy wordt dit jaar bepaald door Atlanta, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel en het verrassende Barry dat als nieuwkomer zo maar eventjes dertien nominaties kreeg. Andere nieuwe series die in de smaak vielen bij de Academy-leden waren Godless (12 nominaties), Genius: Picasso (7 nominaties), The Alienist (6 nominaties), Ozark (5 nominaties), Patrick Melrose (5 nominaties) en de documentaire serie Wild Wild Country (5 nominaties). Na The People VS O.J. Simpson, dat 22 nominaties kreeg, doet het tweede seizoen van American Crime Sotry het bijna net zo goed met 18 nominaties.

De Creative Arts Awards worden uitgereikt op 8 en 9 september, de Primetime Emmy Awards staan gepland voor 17 september .
